Works on Paper

Artist’s Statement
February 1994

My work echoes and mirrors the life that is all around us. The process of growth and decay, flux and change, are naturally occurring events. My work on paper, primarily monotype and collage, is developed in a serial fashion. That is, each piece grows out of the previous one and relies on an editing and refining process. Quite similar to how nature itself operates. So, more than merely reproducing objects from nature, I strive to depict the dialogue or process of nature.

The internal workings of the artist and of nature similarly fluctuate between chaos and order, clarity and mystery, strength and silence, and I believe this can lead one to a reverence for all things created. Whether by the hand of the artist or the hand of God and nature.
